Margherita the name itself suggests its uniqueness which is endowed with lots of natural resources- Coal, Tea, forest resources and a walk ahead the reservoirs of Oil; rich in bio-diversity, a polychromatic pot of ethnicity. Thus it can be better designated as microcosm of India due to its diverse population. Long back in 1978 amidst such variety and potentiality a handful of illustrious and saintly people pondered to disseminate higher education in this locale and thus came into existence today's Margherita College. At different times these industrious luminaries took utmost pain to impart a shape to this institution with lot of hardship and difficulties.

St. Mary's was founded on 1976 in new colony, Margherita, Assam. It has 24 classroom computer labs, laboratories, library, play grounds, basketball court, hall, etc. It has 1600 students. The students are proud to be a part of St. Mary's. The matriculation results are also good. St. Mary's also have separate hostels for boys and girls within the school campus. The students of SMS has a bright future. The students are also good in co-curricular. activities. So love the school , school will be yours.
